Saigon's district 1. Acrylic on canvas 76x101cm 2021.

Ho Chi Minh city or Saigon is a place I visited a few years ago. A great city with friendly people and superb food. The hotel I stayed in was in district 1 where the streets were lined with tall trees (and poles of wires!)

Jakarta History Museum, acrylic on canvas 76 x 101 cm, 2021.

This painting was done entirely within the covid-19 pandemic lockdown period of 2021 in Sydney. The museum is in the Kota Tua historical precinct in Jakarta. The precinct is supposed to be revitalised and renovated to become a cultural icon for Jakarta. I wonder what happened to that revitalisation project

Pura Tirta Empul. Acrylic on canvas, 51x61cm 2020.

Tirta Empul is a shrine at the well known Tampak Siring tourist spot in Bali Indonesia. It is a balinese holy place where there is a ground water spring. Balinese believe that by praying and bathing in the spring water, their prayers will be answered. Tirta Empul literally means Holy Water.

Sarangan, acrylic on canvas 51x61cm 2020

Sarangan in east java is one of those off the beaten track kind of place. It is up near mount Lawu close to the border with central java. There is a lake and the climate is cool. Definitely worthwhile visiting and most certainly worthwhile capturing on canvas.

Portrait comparison study

Left my "Girl with a Headdress", right Vermeer's "Girl with a Pearl Earing". Mine was done in acrylic on 61x61cm canvas in 2020. Vermeer's was done in oil on 44x39cm canvas circa 1665. Love to hear your thoughts.

Della Dartyan - acrylic on canvas 51x61 cm, 2021

.

When it rains outside, it is a perfect time to paint. I did this in less than a week. Della is an indonesian big screen actress and I did this to see how far I can push acrylic paints to make portraiture
