RAINY DAY AT THE ROCKS - oil on canvas, 40x50 cm, 2010

The Rocks is an inner suburb of Sydney very close to the Harbor Bridge and Circular Quay. I painted this from an old black and whote photograph cut from a newspaper. I guessed the colors and it turned out to be nice.

SNOW ON BURNT FOREST - oil on canvas, 27x35cm, 2009

There was a great bush fire or forest fire early in 2009 in country area of Victoria Australia. In the middle of the same year snow fell on the same area. So there was this rather unique contrast of the whote of the snow and the black charred trees that I tried to capture in this painting.

PLUM BLOSSOM AND LEMON - oil on canvas, 30x40cm, 2009

A study of still life.

MERAPI - oil on canvas, 30x30cm, 2010

Merapi is the name of an active Volcano in central Java, Indonesia. I visited the area a few years ago and camped not far from the summit. The painting depicts the road that lead up to the mountain with Merapi's summit clearly visible in the morning sky.

CAPSICUMS - oil on canvas 20x25cm, 2011

I was struck by the colors of a bunch of capsicums in a market in Melbourne. The glint reflections on their shiny skins and the different grade of greens, yellow and reds are the features of the capsicums I captured in this painting

HUANG SHAN SUNRISE - acrylic on canvas, 45x45 cm, 2009

The name Huang Shan is Chinese means Yellow Mountain (Huang=yellow, Shan=mountain). At first I thought it was so named because it the mountain's earth is yellow colored. It is indeed yellow colored but in certain light condition, mainly sunrise. Huang Shan is actually made almost entirely of granite. I painted this after catching the sunrise on one of the Huang Shan's peak.

FAIRWAY TO TANAH LOT - oil on canvas, 40x60 cm, 2011

Tanah Lot is a small rock island on the western shores of Bali island Indonesia. It is a popular tourist attraction and it has a Hindu temple on the island. Nearby is the Nirwana golf club where on one of the par 3 hole, players can see Tanah Lot island beyond the green. It is the dark island in the background beyond the palm trees. The fairway referred to in the painting is the golf fairway.

ALICE – acrylic on canvas, 20x30cm, 2006

Alice (my daughter) was about 12 years old and we went to Currumbin Bird sanctuary in Queensland Australia when the photo was taken. I did not find the likeness anywhere near what it should be but I found the color mix was rather nice.

HOMEBUSH BAY - oil on canvas 30x40cm, 2010

This is painting was made as my way to study landscape. It has sharp and bright foreground objects such as cactus tree by the wooden fence, a red brick garage wall with a green metal chimney. In the background is Homebush bay in Sydney - the area where the Olympic was held in the year 2000. Homebush is a suburb with industrial buildings, apartments and some low rise offices beside Parramatta river visible in the painting.

ENGLESE BRUG - oil oln canvas, 40x60cm, 2016

This painting is the oil version of the sketch I did on Englese Bridge. This draw bridge had many different names in the past but it's first name ever was "Englese Brug" or "English Bridge". According to historians, the bridge connected one side of the river where the Dutch were to the other side where most of the English were, hence the name "Englese Brug". It is now known as Jembatan Kota Intan

Self Portrait - oil on canvas, 40x60cm, 2012

This self portrait was done when I was in Jakarta. My apartment has many wall mirrors and has nice warmish lighting. So I was inspired to do a self portrait. I never had a self portrait done before so this is the only self portrait painting I have. PS: I was wearing a pair of glasses

ANNA BAY - oil on canvas, 75x100cm, 2011

Anna bay is a bay in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. I was 4-wheel driving in the area when I came across this rock formation on the sand on the beach. It was low tide at the time and I found the rock shapes inspiring. So I took a photo of it and later I painted it. The painting is now hanging inmy apartment in Jakarta.

NGARAI SIANOK - oil on canvas, 60x75cm, 015

Ngarai Sianok is the name of a well known valley in Sumatra. It is very picturesque and has been subject to many paintings in the past. With such a beautiful landscape I, like many others, could not help but be inspired to paint it.

SABUNG AYAM - oil on canvas, 30x40cm, 2014

Sabung Ayam or Cock Fight is a traditional hobby in Indonesia and several other asian countries. I was inspired to capture an Indonesian cultural scene and I opted for this scene of a man holding his cock.. err.. holding his rooster I should say.

Impression of Dad - oil on canvas, 30x40cm, 2014

This work is an attempt to capture the essence of my father. He has a strong muscular neck, distinctive bags under the eyes and short white hair. This painting probably would be a reminder only to those who know him.
