The railway track from Jakarta to Bandung passes many bridges (and a tunnel) near Padalarang. The track and its many bridges were built by the Dutch in the colonial period and it is still in use today.

HUANG SHAN - acrylic on canvas, 80x100cm, 2009
Huang Shan or the Yellow Mountain is a mountain in China. It has many granite peaks with pine trees. Extraordinarily beautiful and sureal. I used to think classical chinese ink painting portrayal of dramatic mountain scapes were pure imagination until I saw Huang Shan.

Huntleys Point is a suburb in Sydney Australia. It has a ferry wharf near Gladesville Bridge where I used to take ferry to work. The pedestrian path down to the wharf is from the left. The wharf is on the right side. The morning sun was casting shadows along the sloping ground.

Luna Park is a fair ground or amusement park in Sydney Australia. It is by the water on Sydney Harbor and just below the north end of the Sydney Harbor Bridge. I commute to work by ferry and the route stop at Luna Park wharf. This scene is at dusk and the laughing man facade was brightly lit. The park was under part-renovation at the time and has large sheets of colorful posters on the side.

Every spring a small town named Bowral in New South Wales Australia is full of blooming tulips and attract many tourists. It was a cold but very sunny day when I took the photo which later became the inspiration of this painting.

PADANG RIVER - oil on canvas 34x40cm, 2016
Indonesia has amazing landscape. From the river to the sea. My favourite subject is rivers. I did a Sumedang river painting before. This one is a scene of river in Padang, Sumatra. The randomly scattered rocks, the reflections on the still water and the distant trees on distant hills, all combined to make a beautiful and serene scene. This painting was inspired from a Bali holiday photo of mine. I went to see traditional balinese dance show near Denpasar and I took the photo with flashlight. The cloth color and the glitter came out nicely. This painting now belongs to a collector Sydney Australia.

RAINY DAY AT THE ROCKS - oil on canvas, 40x50 cm, 2010
The Rocks is an inner suburb of Sydney very close to the Harbor Bridge and Circular Quay. I painted this from an old black and whote photograph cut from a newspaper. I guessed the colors and it turned out to be nice.
SNOW ON BURNT FOREST - oil on canvas, 27x35cm, 2009
There was a great bush fire or forest fire early in 2009 in country area of Victoria Australia. In the middle of the same year snow fell on the same area. So there was this rather unique contrast of the whote of the snow and the black charred trees that I tried to capture in this painting.

Merapi is the name of an active Volcano in central Java, Indonesia. I visited the area a few years ago and camped not far from the summit. The painting depicts the road that lead up to the mountain with Merapi's summit clearly visible in the morning sky.

I was struck by the colors of a bunch of capsicums in a market in Melbourne. The glint reflections on their shiny skins and the different grade of greens, yellow and reds are the features of the capsicums I captured in this painting
HUANG SHAN SUNRISE - acrylic on canvas, 45x45 cm, 2009
The name Huang Shan is Chinese means Yellow Mountain (Huang=yellow, Shan=mountain). At first I thought it was so named because it the mountain's earth is yellow colored. It is indeed yellow colored but in certain light condition, mainly sunrise. Huang Shan is actually made almost entirely of granite. I painted this after catching the sunrise on one of the Huang Shan's peak.

Tanah Lot is a small rock island on the western shores of Bali island Indonesia. It is a popular tourist attraction and it has a Hindu temple on the island. Nearby is the Nirwana golf club where on one of the par 3 hole, players can see Tanah Lot island beyond the green. It is the dark island in the background beyond the palm trees. The fairway referred to in the painting is the golf fairway.

Alice (my daughter) was about 12 years old and we went to Currumbin Bird sanctuary in Queensland Australia when the photo was taken. I did not find the likeness anywhere near what it should be but I found the color mix was rather nice.
HOMEBUSH BAY - oil on canvas 30x40cm, 2010
This is painting was made as my way to study landscape. It has sharp and bright foreground objects such as cactus tree by the wooden fence, a red brick garage wall with a green metal chimney. In the background is Homebush bay in Sydney - the area where the Olympic was held in the year 2000. Homebush is a suburb with industrial buildings, apartments and some low rise offices beside Parramatta river visible in the painting.

This painting is the oil version of the sketch I did on Englese Bridge. This draw bridge had many different names in the past but it's first name ever was "Englese Brug" or "English Bridge". According to historians, the bridge connected one side of the river where the Dutch were to the other side where most of the English were, hence the name "Englese Brug". It is now known as Jembatan Kota Intan

Anna bay is a bay in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. I was 4-wheel driving in the area when I came across this rock formation on the sand on the beach. It was low tide at the time and I found the rock shapes inspiring. So I took a photo of it and later I painted it. The painting is now hanging inmy apartment in Jakarta.

Ngarai Sianok is the name of a well known valley in Sumatra. It is very picturesque and has been subject to many paintings in the past. With such a beautiful landscape I, like many others, could not help but be inspired to paint it.
